Dr. Opoku Prempeh Visits Adum Bluelight Fire Victims, Pledges Support

The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has called on the victims of the Adum Bluelight fire incident within the Central Business District of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to remain united in their efforts to rebuild the market.

The former Manhyia South MP, who visited the site on Wednesday, March 2, 2024, to commiserate with the victims, assured them of his support in their efforts to restore the market.

Traders at the Adum Bluelight section of the Central Business District were left devastated after a fire ravaged the entire section of the market in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025.

After visiting the damaged area, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh donated GH₵50,000 and 500 bags of cement to the traders to support the rebuilding efforts.

He further assured them that an additional GH₵100,000 would be allocated from the Manhyia South MP’s Common Fund to aid the reconstruction.

Speaking after the donation, he urged the traders to remain united and avoid divisions that could hinder their rebuilding efforts.

“I know Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the regional minister, Kennedy Agyapong, and others have visited you. Even President Mahama and some other executives from the NPP came here to visit you as well. So, if I don’t make my way here, it will not be fair to you.

“I believe that the woes of your brother are your woes as well. I have been affected personally by the fire outbreak. It is only when you get affected that you can be able to testify how painful it is. I pray the good God comfort you and bring you back on your feet. Those of us who have taken upon ourselves to do politics must know that we use people to build a nation, not money,” he stated.

For his part, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, also donated 100 bags of cement to the fire victims as part of his efforts to support the reconstruction of the market.
