Decision to name Jordan Ayew as Black Stars captain must be respected – Agyemang-Badu

Former Ghana midfielder, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, has urged Ghanaians to respect the decision to name Jordan Ayew as the new Black Stars captain.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a statement ahead of the senior national team’s games against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers confirmed that the Leicester City attacker will lead the team as the captain.

Jordan takes over from his brother, Andre Ayew, who has been left out of the squad for the games after Thomas Partey declined to assume any leadership role.

Following the decision, Agyemang-Badu, who played with Jordan Ayew at the 2014 World Cup has pleaded that the decision must be accepted and respected.

“No time for blame games anymore; let us reset Black Stars,” he told Takoradi-based Connect FM.

“Jordan Ayew is the captain of the Black Stars; let us respect that and move on,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars officially opened camp today in Accra and will hold their first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Jojo Wollacott, Antoine Semenyo and Thomas Partey have all arrived in camp.

Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, before travelling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on Monday, March 24.

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points, level with leaders Comoros.
