Kwame Pianim: Only Mahama Can Reset Ghana’s Course

Renowned economist Kwame Pianim has commended President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as exceptional and responsive leadership, declaring the President as the only Ghanaian capable of “resetting Ghana” in these challenging times.

Pianim made the remarks during a courtesy call by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on President Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, June 11.

He highlighted the President’s willingness to listen and act on the concerns of teachers, stressing that such responsiveness sets him apart.

“Here we tend to underpay our teachers but with you as a listening president, I was happy when they were coming; they said let’s go and talk to the president — I said with this president if he tells you he is going to do something, he will do it,” Pianim stated.

Drawing a contrast, he recalled a broken promise by another leader who pledged to deliver 10,000 housing units to teachers—a commitment that, according to him, yielded nothing.

“Someone told them he was going to give them 10,000 houses, they got zero. I told them this is a listening president,” he added.

Pianim called on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to unite behind President Mahama’s leadership.

“Of the 35, 36 million Ghanaians alive, you are the only one who can reset Ghana for us. I have been talking to the other people on the other side; when I put on my political hat, all of us have to make democracy work and support you because if you fail us — this is a historic opportunity for Ghana to get on the right path.”

He further urged President Mahama to rise above partisan considerations and focus on national interest.

“You are the right person, you don’t need the voters, you don’t need the party, do the best for Ghana and leave a legacy,” Pianim said.
