Manasseh Azure Supports Bawumia, Doubts NDC’s 2028 Leadership Prospects

Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has come under fire from some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for expressing his support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

On Facebook, several individuals who identify with the NDC used strong language against the investigative journalist following a post he made regarding who would be the best leader for the country in the 2028 presidential election.

Why Bawumia?

“Dr. Bawumia may not be the best candidate within the entire NPP (New Patriotic Party), but among the list of options ready to lead, he stands out by a significant margin,” Manasseh stated.

No Hope from NDC

He further elaborated, “The rumours I hear from the NDC camp about Mahama’s potential successor do not inspire hope. The leadership of the NDC and how the party performs over the next four years will influence my decision between the NDC and NPP.”

Manasseh continued, “That is why I am particularly interested in who leads the NPP as it prepares to select its flag bearer. I seek a candidate I can support if the NDC fails to impress me. Among the candidates lined up to lead the NPP, the one who stands a chance of receiving my vote is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Not Neutral

The journalist made it clear that he is not politically neutral. “I vote, and I care about who becomes my president. The last time I voted was in 2016, when I supported Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP. I had voted for John Dramani Mahama in the 2012 election, but I believed—and still believe today—that he did not deserve my vote in 2016.”

“Unless a better, more serious alternative emerges in 2028, I may have to choose between the NPP and the NDC. If John Mahama’s record as president continues, and if he runs again, I won’t hesitate to decide who to vote for in 2028.”
