I Lied About NPP – Omane Boamah Tells Parliament

Minister of Defence designate, Dr Edward Omane Boamah ate humble pie at his vetting when he admitted that allegations of land looting he made against the immediate past New Patriotic Party (NPP) government were false.

During the meeting of the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Tuesday, January 28, the Ranking Member and MP for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin drew Dr Omane Boamah’s attention to some social media posts he made, including one on illegal encroachment on Ghana International School (GIS) lands at Cantonments in Accra by an unnamed businessman, which he implicated the then NPP government of having a hand in it.

Pushed by Afenyo-Markin to substantiate his allegation against the NPP, Dr Omane Boamah, who is the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could not justify the allegations.

No evidence
According to him, he had no evidence to prove his claims as at the time of the allegations.
He further indicated that, he should not have also accused the government of land looting. “For the purposes of today’s vetting, if it is the case that the person was a bold Ghanaian investor, without any authorization decided to invade part of GIS’s lands, then I should not have linked the NPP to it.”

Tax evasion
Afenyo-Markin also grilled Dr Omane Boamah on tax evasion regarding his employment. The ranking member asked him to provide proof to the committee that he paid taxes on his earnings.
