Asantehene reaffirms commitment to lasting peace in Bawku

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has expressed his strong commitment to bringing lasting peace to the troubled Bawku area and its surroundings.

This declaration follows the temporary postponement of efforts to resolve the long-standing conflict in Bawku due to the complexities of the chieftaincy dispute.

Despite these challenges, the Asantehene remains optimistic that recent mediation talks with the conflicting factions will lead to peace in the area.

Importance of peace
During a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, he emphasized the importance of restoring lasting peace. “We need peace for development. My responsibility, along with the traditional authorities, is to ensure that peace prevails everywhere. We must address conflicts effectively so that the government can also work smoothly,” he stated.

He added, “Recently, there have been some communal conflicts in the northern part of Ghana, near the border with Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are making every effort to secure lasting peace.”
