Mahama Opposes Asiedu-Nketia Leading NDC in 2028 Presidential Race

National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, is nowhere to be found in the scheme of things of the party.

The vociferous party chairman had completely gone on the quiet, with reports alleging a rift between him and President John Dramani Mahama.

The disagreement between the two is said to have roots in the national chairman’s presidential ambition, which the President is vehemently opposed to.

Unhappy
Inside sources told The Thunder that Mr Asiedu-Nketia is unhappy about the rejection of his choices for ministerial and CEO appointments. “President Mahama has rejected all of Asiedu-Nketia’s choices except the Member of Parliament for Banda, Ahmed Ibrahim who is now the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs,” a source said.

Presidential ambition
The NDC national chairman is said to be nursing presidential ambition. He is bent on contesting the 2028 NDC presidential primaries to become the presidential candidate of the party in the next elections.

But, President Mahama is strongly against Asiedu-Nketia leading the party in 2028. The President is supported by the Ewe mafia in the NDC who believe that the presidential candidate must come from the Volta Region.
