Government to reintroduce road tolls

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has officially announced plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls in Ghana to generate revenue for road maintenance and related projects.

In a press release issued today, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to implementing a modern and technologically driven toll collection system, which aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and fairness in the tolling process.

The decision to reintroduce tolls follows ongoing concerns over road maintenance funding in the country. The Ministry assured the public that the new system would address previous challenges while ensuring sustainable financing for road infrastructure.

The reintroduction of road tolls marks a policy reversal from the government’s earlier decision to abolish toll collection. However, the Ministry’s latest approach seeks to modernize the system with improved technology and efficiency.
