Volta Region Mourns: Retired Seafarer Fatally Attacked by Hired Herdsman

The peaceful town of Tadzewu has been rocked by a brutal killing that has left the community in mourning.

Carson Fogah Ladzekpo, a retired seafarer turned cattle farmer, was found dead and buried in his own cattle kraal, with a Fulani herdsman he had employed emerging as the prime suspect.

According to local sources, Mr. Ladzekpo, who returned to his hometown a decade ago after a successful maritime career, was last seen on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, in the company of cattle dealers who had come to purchase three bulls.

Concern grew over his whereabouts in the days that followed. A search party comprising local youth and elders made a grim discovery early Friday morning, his body was buried in the kraal where his livestock were kept.

Police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who was found hiding nearby. While an investigation is underway, the incident has sparked outrage and deep sorrow within the community.

Local leaders and the victim’s family are calling for swift and decisive action. Their demands include a full and transparent investigation, the maximum sentence for the perpetrator, and the involvement of National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to probe potential broader motives behind the killing.

“Tadzewu is in tears. We need answers—we need justice,” said Torgbui Eya Agblohu II, Dufia of Tadzewu.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served as investigations continue.
