Visa Waiver Deal Signed Between Ghana and Algeria for Closer Relations

Ghana and Algeria have signed a visa waiver agreement as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations, following an official visit to Algiers by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The agreement was announced after high-level meetings with the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf.

Both countries also agreed to expand cooperation in key sectors, including increasing scholarships for Ghanaian students in artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering.

Other outcomes of the visit include plans to establish a direct air link between Accra and Algiers, launch a strategic oil and gas partnership, and strengthen security cooperation and intelligence sharing. The two nations also committed to reviving their Joint Economic Cooperation framework.

The visit reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Ghana and Algeria, anchored in a history of post-independence solidarity and mutual support.
