Offin Shelter Belt Cleared of Illegal Miners, Ashanti Regional Minister Tells Otumfuo

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has announced the retrieval of the Offin Shelter Belt in the Atwima Mponua District from illegal miners.

This follows a crackdown on the illegal miners who had taken over forest reserves in the region in late February.

Updating Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the fight, he said the forest reserve at the Offin Shelter Belt is now sanitized.

“We have started taking action on illegal mining. One forest reserve, the Offin Shelter Belt has been reclaimed,” he said on March 2, 2025, when he joined the second Akwasidae Festival of the year at the Manhyia Palace.

Jobs

On the earlier advice of Otumfuo for those engaged in illegal mining to be provided decent jobs, he said a desk has been established to address that.
