Mahama Announces Plans to Establish Technical University in Techiman

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to establish a Technical University in Techiman as part of his administration’s commitment to expanding access to technical and vocational education in the Bono East Region.

Speaking during his thank-you tour of the region, President Mahama announced that the government is collaborating with key regional stakeholders to bring the project to life.

“We are working closely with the Bono East Coordinating Council, the Lands Commission, and the Techiman Traditional Council to establish a Technical University in Techiman. A site has already been selected at Forikrom,” he said.

He added that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen technical and vocational education across the country.

President Mahama also disclosed that plans are underway to establish a University of Health and Life Sciences institution in Kintampo to further support the region’s educational and healthcare needs.

Highlighting the significance of these projects, Mahama emphasised the role of technical education in economic transformation.

“We believe that technical education is essential for industrial growth and job creation. With these institutions, we aim to bridge the skills gap and create opportunities for the youth of the region,” he noted.

The announcement was met with enthusiasm from local leaders and residents, many of whom view the proposed university as a long-awaited opportunity to boost development and youth empowerment in Bono East.

The Technical University at Forikrom, once completed, is expected to provide a range of programmes focused on engineering, applied sciences, and industrial technology, equipping students with practical skills to meet the demands of the modern job market.
