I’II improve Free SHS – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, vowing to tackle its challenges and enhance educational outcomes.

During his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Central Region on Thursday, February 6, 2025, Mr. Mahama emphasized education as one of his top priorities.

He outlined plans to strengthen the Free SHS programme by securing dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to ensure more efficient operations.

“Education will remain a priority and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels.
“And ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy. We plan to improve the Free SHS programme to secure dedicated funding and decentralised food procurement.”

Mr. Mahama also announced the introduction of a “no academic fees” policy to provide financial aid for continuing students and a commitment to expanding infrastructure for tertiary institutions to accommodate growing student populations.

“Additionally, we will introduce a ‘no academic fees’ policy offering financial aid to continuing students and expand infrastructure for tertiary institutions.”
