Bawumia: NDC MPs can’t visit Bawku over false claims about conflict

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that members of Parliament (MPs) from the Bawku area representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are unable to visit their constituencies because they misled their constituents about the Bawku conflict for political gain.

According to Dr. Bawumia, who was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in the 2024 elections, these MPs fear attacks from their own people for deceiving them.

Speaking during the NPP’s Thank You engagements in the Upper East Region on May 5, he said, “The NDC blamed me for the Bawku conflict. They lied to the people that Vice President Bawumia is the one supplying the guns, but today, God has exposed them; their own MPs can’t even go home because the Kusasi people have seen the truth.”

Politicization
Dr. Bawumia described the politicization of the Bawku crisis as unfortunate, explaining that some individuals exploit the situation for their own narrow interests rather than for the peace and stability of the area. He urged politicians to be cautious in using chieftaincy issues for political gain. “The NDC has done this, and it is now a burden they must carry,” he emphasized.
